Endodontic care

Save your natural tooth. Get back to living comfortably.

Root canal treatment is used when the inner pulp of a tooth becomes infected or severely inflamed. It removes the source of infection while helping preserve your natural tooth.

Root Canal Treatment at the clinic

Treatment can include

  • Root canal treatment
  • Treatment of infected teeth
  • Re-treatment of previous root canals
  • Pain and infection management
  • Restoration after root canal treatment

Why a tooth needs root canal treatment

Inside every tooth is a soft core of nerve and blood vessels called the pulp. Deep decay, a crack or an injury can let bacteria reach it. Once the pulp is infected it cannot heal on its own, and the infection can spread into the bone around the root. Root canal treatment removes the infected tissue so the tooth itself can stay in place.

What happens during the appointment

The tooth is numbed, an opening is made through the biting surface, and the infected pulp is cleaned out of the root canals. The canals are shaped, disinfected and then sealed. Treatment may be completed in one visit or split across two, depending on how much infection is present.

Why a crown is often advised afterwards

A treated tooth has lost its internal core and, in back teeth especially, becomes more likely to fracture under chewing forces. A crown or a substantial restoration is commonly recommended to protect it and restore normal function.
